Job Description

Main Duties

·          Operate industrial sewing machines to sew fabric, ultra soft or synthetic fabric to produce or repair garments and other articles

·         Operate fur sewing machines to join fur pelt strips to required size and shape and join pelts into garment sections or shells

·         Operate serging machines to sew and overcast edges of material simultaneously

·         Operate tackers, pocket setters, buttonhole makers and fusing, hemmer and other machines to perform various operations in the fabrication of garments and other articles

·         Record accurately the materials used, maintenance performed and number of pieces completed during each shift, keeping each of these metrics within target ranges

·         Assisting customers in fitting dresses which are made or altered

·         Draw threads through needles and adjust machine functions to meet the requirements of the sewing project

·         Ensure that the finished product conforms to the design and merchandising instructions provided in the work order

·         Monitor machines for symptoms of metal fatigue or motor failure, and may have to perform minor repairs on the spot
