Job Title: Sea Kayak Guide Job Description: CANADIAN RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY Summer Employment Opportunity for Experienced Kayakers Employment begins in early June and continues through September 2020. Position is guiding daily sea kayaking trips on a lake in northern British Columbia. Core duties include and are not limited to: - Kayak Instruction. Employee is responsible for instructing novice paddlers in how to propel self and partner in 2-person kayaks. - Safety. Employee is responsible for guest safety during entire excursion, including while paddling kayak in wilderness setting. - Equipment Maintenance. Employee is responsible for monitoring equipment and making repairs and/or communicating to supervisor need for repair or replacement of equipment. - Education. Share with guests information relating to regional ecology, history, and geography. REQUIRED Skills and Training: - Level Two Guide (or above) Sea Kayak course completed successfully or 2 seasons professional guiding experience. - Excellent communication skills. - First Aid & CPR - Medical training that includes cold water rescue and response. - Personable and Outgoing Personality - Must be able to lift 70 lbs PREFERRED: - Adventure Tourism Diploma or 2 years of study in Recreation field  - Self-rescue and assisted rescue training completed successfully (Packer Expeditions can provide this to the right candidate). - Wilderness Advanced First Aid (US) or Wilderness First Aid (CAN), or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or higher level of certification preferred. - Knowledge of regional geography, botany, wildlife, ecology and history. All required skills must be demonstrated as a prerequisite for employment. - Pay up to US$18.50 per hour + gratuities. POSITION DOES NOT INCLUDE MULTI- DAY/OVERNIGHT TRIPS. Packer Expeditions does not pay for relocation expenses. Packer Expeditions can provide housing, if needed. Applicants who are able to live in the United States will find housing to be easier. Applicants must be clean, presentable and enjoy working with people that have little or no paddling experience. Good people skills are essential and an educational background in the outdoor or environmental sciences is a plus.
