Job Description:
The Assistant Cook supports the daily operation of Bretoba's workforce accommodation kitchen while helping maintain the shared common areas that serve our employees and subcontractors.
Working closely with the Lead Cook, this role assists with meal preparation, food service, kitchen sanitation, inventory organization, and the daily operation of the dining and common areas. The Assistant Cook helps create a clean, organized, and welcoming environment where employees (crews) can enjoy meals, recharge after work, and prepare for the day ahead.
This position plays an important role in supporting the overall accommodation experience by ensuring both the kitchen and common spaces remain clean, stocked, and ready for use every day.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the preparation and service of cold breakfasts, bagged lunches, and hot dinners.
Prepare and portion food as directed by the Lead Cook.
Assist with food storage, rotation, and organization.
Help ensure meals are prepared and served safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Clean and sanitize food preparation areas throughout the day.
Receive, organize, and store food and supply deliveries.
Assist with inventory counts and notify the Kitchen Lead of low stock levels.
Support the Lead Cook with daily kitchen operations and food safety practices.
Ensure the dining and common area are clean, organized, and welcoming throughout the day.
Clean and sanitize dining area furniture and high-touch surfaces and sweep and tidy between meal services.
Restock coffee, beverages, condiments, utensils, napkins, and other dining supplies.
Empty garbage and recycling from the kitchen and common areas.
Work collaboratively with the Lead Cook, Housekeeper, and Bretoba team members.
Report maintenance concerns, equipment issues, or supply shortages promptly.
Assist with special meals or events as required.
Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace.
Key Qualifications:
Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, camp, restaurant, institutional, or hospitality environment is considered an asset.
Food Handler or Food Safety Certification, or willingness to obtain prior to employment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A commitment to cleanliness, food safety, and maintaining high standards.
Physically capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Reliable, dependable, and able to take initiative.
Positive attitude with a commitment to providing a welcoming environment for Bretoba employees and subcontractors.
Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check.
Language English - able to communicate with the team effectively.
Wage: $22 - $25 / hr; may be eligible for discretionary bonus or overtime at the sole discretion of the employer
